David W. Stambaugh III

Baltimore maritime exchange

 

 

Mr. Stambaugh began his career with the BME in 1973 as a watch stander. He was appointed general manager in 1988 and now serves as the Exchanges first Executive Director in its 109 year history. He manages and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Exchange as well as providing operational support to the local Propeller Club Chapter, the Baltimore International Seafarers Center, the Apostleship of the Sea, and the Baltimore Port Coalition.

 

As Executive Director, he represents the BME and its membership on the Harbor Safety and Coordination Committee, the Area Maritime Security Committee, the Baltimore Port Alliance, and the Federal Agency Quality Work Group.

 

The Baltimore Maritime Exchange, established in 1899 as part of the Chamber of Commerce, provides vessel logistics, vessel statistics, vessel tracking and monitoring, communications coordination, and reporting services to its members and the greater maritime community of the Port of Baltimore. The BME was incorporated as a non-profit corporation in 1954.

 

Prior to coming to the BME, Mr. Stambaugh worked as a research assistant at Good Samaritan Hospital, a carpenter working on small business and residential properties, and a children’s art teacher for the Baltimore County Department for Recreation and Parks.

 

Mr. Stambaugh graduated with a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 1971. In addition, he holds a degree in Restaurant Skills from the Baltimore International College and has attended the Schuler School of Fine Arts and the Maryland Institute College of Art.

 

His hobbies include sailing, sea kayaking, drawing and painting, carpentry and cooking. He lives with his wife in a house he helped to build on property in Baltimore County that has been in the family for over 150 years.
